Meet Gretchen! Gretchen came to us as a stray that was found wandering an apartment building, but no one claimed her. She is one of the skinniest dogs we've ever had here ( the second most skinniest dog we've taken in this year), and you could count every vertebra down her very long tail! Gretchen is a very sweet girl who craves human attention and interaction. She is around 6 months old and is still eating her way back up to a healthy weight. She is currently around 28 lbs. Gretchen has a delicate fur coat, so much that she doesn't even have fur that grows on her abdomen. She feels like velvet when you pet her! She did not have a very good start to life, as it is obvious that she was never taught any basic manners or housetrained. She is, however, very food motivated (who would have thought?!?!) and is learning very fast. She does well with other dogs, and she has been around a very confident office cat and did well, but she is very high energy at this age, so we do not recommend her to a home with cats until she learns more manners. Gretchen is vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and has been dewormed. She is not yet old enough for heartworm/lyme testing; however, she has been on prevention since coming under our care in April. She is still recovering from happy tail- a condition in which the tip of the tail bleeds due to wagging it so hard against surfaces- but is at the very end stage of the scabbing and she has not opened the wound in a few weeks now. She also has a special eye that likes to wander and look the other direction at times, but there's nothing medically wrong with it, she just has 180-degree eyesight! Requirements for Adoption: Sorry, but we only place our dogs in the Columbus area. Must be over the age of 24 to adopt. Your resident pets must be spayed/neutered. Adoption Process: We do not have an application. Adoptions are pet-adopter driven. To meet our pets: Call our office at 614-471-9000 or click on the pet that you are interested in and send an email. We will be happy to discuss the adoption process with you and set up a visit at the time of contact. The foster dogs are in foster homes and most of the cats reside at our office. The adoption process includes a lease manager reference (if applicable), a veterinarian reference, and a home visit. The pooches that visit your home will not be left there at the end of the visit. We take them back home with us so your family can discuss to ensure he/she is a good fit for your home. There is an adoption agreement and adoption fees as follows: $300 for Dogs $100 for Cats All pets are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested (dogs), fiv/leukemia tested (cats), & micro-chipped. Known medical conditions are discussed at the time of inquiry.
