Blondie is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Blondie’s story is one of survival, strength, and second (and third) chances. After spending much of her life bouncing in and out of the San Antonio city shelter—or worse, fending for herself on the streets while raising litter after litter—Blondie was finally given a chance at something better. Most recently, she was rescued by a shelter foster after her final litter of puppies were adopted. But despite her motherly duties being over, she still found herself back in the shelter system, this time with a chronic upper respiratory infection (URI) that just wouldn’t quit. When she landed on the euthanasia list, we knew we had to step in. Though she’s an older gal, Blondie still has plenty of spunk! When she gets her paws on a plush toy, she turns into a one-dog show—tossing it up, flipping it around, and proudly showing it off like it’s her baby. She’ll often stare lovingly at her stuffed animals, entertaining herself for hours. She’s also a bit of a toy hoarder and has been known to lay on her prized possessions so the other dogs can’t steal them. ? While she lives peacefully with her canine foster siblings, she doesn’t seek them out and would be just as happy being your one and only. When she does interact with them, she’s friendly—but her toys are hers, and she kindly asks everyone else to respect that. Blondie hasn’t been around cats, but she lives with a 7-year-old child and does well, although she’s a strong girl and can sometimes be a bit enthusiastic with her love. For that reason, we recommend a home with kids 5+ who understand dog behavior and body language. She’s never shown anything negative, just lots of love and a slightly bulldozer-like approach to affection! She walks calmly on leash and rarely pulls. She’s been described as a “fantastic deadweight” when she’s not on board with the direction you’re headed—like the vet’s office, for example ?. Off-leash, she has great recall and stays close by. Her foster mom even says she helps bring in groceries and never leaves her people’s side. She has gone to some community events and SOAKED up all the attention! Blondie is fully house-trained and lets you know when she needs to go out by giving a good ol’ fashioned stare-down at the back door. She’s crate-trained but trusted to be loose in the house and has never had an accident. That said, she’s used to a family who’s home most of the time, so she’ll need a bit of grace to adjust if your schedule looks different. Food is Blondie’s love language. She eats every meal like it might be her last and has no shame in sneaking snacks from her corgi and lab siblings if they’re not careful. While she hasn’t shown food aggression, her meals are fed separately to avoid any drama. A slow feeder or puzzle toy could help pace her eating and give her some extra mental enrichment. Above all, Blondie is a total Velcro dog. She wants nothing more than to be near her people. She’s been described as the cuddliest dog her foster mom has ever had. She’ll drape herself over you, claim your arm as her own, and snuggle like a champ. At night, she sleeps beside her 16-year-old human foster sister, making up for all the love she missed in her earlier years. Blondie would thrive in a home where she’s the center of attention. While she gets along with other dogs, her dream scenario is being your one and only cuddlebug. She’s playful, silly, affectionate, and eager to please. She’s learning how to share, how to wait patiently for food, and how to give her humans just a little breathing room. But after the life she’s had, we get it—she’s making up for lost time. Could you be the final chapter in Blondie’s long journey? She’s come so far, and she’s ready to give her heart fully to someone who will finally give her the forever love she’s always deserved. Apply today and help Blondie write her happily ever after. ? ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
