We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Junie s an 8-year-old, spayed female Pitbull/Retriever mix weighing 56 pounds. She’s currently located in HOUSTON, Texas, but don’t worry—she can transport out of state once an adopter is approved! Junie. has been in rescue for several years, quietly waiting for her chance at a true forever home. We recently welcomed her from another rescue that originally saved her from euthanasia at a Houston shelter. Her story began on the streets, where she was found after what was believed to be a dog attack. Scared and alone, she was picked up by animal control, and her fate was uncertain—until rescue stepped in. Though she’s an older gal, Junie still has so much love, energy, and life to give. During her time in rescue, she worked with a professional trainer who helped her regain trust and confidence. Because of her traumatic past, Junie is understandably fearful around other dogs. She’s unsure how they'll treat her, and when startled, her first instinct is to protect herself. That said, with patience and proper slow introductions, Junie has shown she can successfully coexist with other dogs. She even formed a deep bond with one of the male dogs at her trainer’s home—her “best friend.” In her current foster home, Junie is the only pet and doing wonderfully. She met a relative’s dog on leash recently and, when approached from behind, barked out of fear. That moment was captured on video and perfectly illustrates why slow, thoughtful introductions are key to her success. If placed in a home with another dog, she’ll need time, structure, and guidance. Fortunately, Junie is not leash-reactive—she can pass dogs calmly on walks without issue. What does a slow intro look like for Junie? It means giving her the time she needs in her own space, using crate-and-rotate strategies, and slowly building up to supervised face-to-face time. With this approach, Junie has proven she can thrive. But don’t let her age or cautious nature fool you—Junie B. is still a “Party Animal” at heart! She absolutely loves staying active. She’s a perfect companion for walks, jogs, or even rollerblading. At home, Junie is a gem. She’s fully house-trained, crate-trained (though she no longer needs one), and has excellent leash manners. She rides well in the car, has solid recall, and loves zooming around in open fields. When she’s not exploring or exercising, you’ll find her curled up on the couch, snuggling close and doling out sweet kisses. She’s an affectionate lovebug with a photogenic face you’ll want to post every day. We don’t have any history of Junie with cats or small children, but she would do best in a home with older kids (10+) or children who are respectful of animal boundaries. Her gentle demeanor and affectionate heart suggest she could adjust to family life with proper guidance. Anyone who has met this girl, absolutely loves her. She is easy to love and hang out with. She is super friendly with every person she meets and always has an extra kiss to give out. Junie is the kind of dog who will change your life. She’s soulful, sweet, resilient—and more than ready for her happily ever after. Whether as your one-and-only or with the right canine companion, Junie will bring joy, adventure, and unwavering loyalty into your home. Apply today and give Junie the love story she’s been waiting for. https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PRP/Dog ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
