Kylo (fka Spunky)
Adult • Male • Large
This beautiful boy is Kylo (originally named Spunky). We think he is about 4-6 years old, but given we dont know much about his history, it is hard to tell. He was found in a park: emaciated, full of fleas, and with a lot of skin problems / hair loss. He has been with his foster family since the middle of May. He has been making great progress with gaining weight, slowly growing his hair back, and learning to be the bestest boy. He is UTD on shots, neutered and microchipped. He is very good with kids. He absolutely loves his 3 year old in his foster house, but he can get anxious if someone is playing with his boy a little rough or he think his kid is in danger. A lot of stimulation and commotion can make him anxious. He is very good with his foster brother, who is the most docile dog out there, but he will bark at strange dogs, so slow introductions with other dogs are a must. Kylo would prefer to be the only pet in the house. He can be protective of his humans around other animals. He will chase cats, but not harm them. He is house trained. He may have an accident or two while he is acclimating but otherwise does a good job going outside. Must have a fenced yard or be walked on a leash! He does NOT love or like a crate. He free roams at his foster house without any issues, just make sure all your food is safely contained - he can be a counter surfer! Kylo loves to play with a ball and toys but equally loves to snuggle and be a couch potato with his person. Kylo is very intelligent! He knows basic commands and is highly motivated to please his person and learn. With consistency and patience, he will thrive! We joke that he shouldve been named shadow or Velcro because he will follow you everywhere - even to the bathroom Apply to meet him at ricopetrecovery.org. Adoption fee is $250
Benny
Adult • Male • Medium
Benny was found severely emaciated in a house with another dog in December of last year. He was rescued with his companion (June Bug) by Good Samaritans and placed in Rico care. The two dogs were immediately taken to a veterinary clinic where they began their long road to recovery. Despite the horror he endured, Benny was very sweet and sought attention and love from everyone at the clinic. After two weeks in the hospital, Benny and June Bug were strong enough to be discharged and moved to a foster home to continue their recovery. Benny has blossomed into a gorgeous, healthy and athletic dog. Benny is very smart. He quickly learned the routines in his foster home and feeding times. He has learned to sit, shake and to ring the bells to go outside. Benny is house trained and crate trained. Benny loves to play fetch in the backyard and has learned to bring the ball back and to drop it. Benny walks very well on leash and has shown no aggression towards other dogs that he passes on his walks. Benny has also happily greeted all the dogs he met at adoption events and on park outings. Benny does not show any resource guarding with humans, but because of his past, he will always need to be fed separately from other dogs. Benny is doing very well in the home with his long time female companion (June Bug) and he would be happy as an only dog or with June Bug. Introductions to other dogs in the house would have to be slow, as is always recommended. Benny's fosters are willing to work with any interested families on slow introductions and slow transitions. Benny is not cat tested. We recommend a family for Benny with children older than 10 because he can get excited around people and may jump. Benny loves to snuggle on the couch in the evening and to chew on his favorite bones. Benny would love a fenced yard to continue to work on his fetching skills. He loves to run around and sniff all the good smells. The veterinarian thinks that Benny is about 3-4 years old and is a boxer mix, probably with a hound. Benny has been neutered and is up to date on his shots. Benny is looking for a forever family that loves outdoors adventures and with whom he can share his love.Apply to meet Benny at ricopetrecovery.org.
