This handsome Cattledog type mix has been a beloved indoor companion for the last 3 years and even slept in the people bed. He's around 4 years old and perfectly house trained and nice manners. He's good in the car and gets along well with other dogs. He's obese at around 65 pounds, but should be around 50. He's back with us for twice snapping at the toddler in the home when the child invaded his space. He normally gets up and moves when the baby comes at him, but reached a threshold of tolerance. All dogs have a threshold, some are more tolerant than others. When we hear people say that the "kids can do anything to the dog," we cringe because in many cases the dog will reach their breaking point eventually. It's up to the adults to manage a dog around kids. Most dogs treat kids like puppies and that means kids may be corrected with a nip if they invade the dog's space. If you aren't willing to manage dogs around kids, and if nips are a deal breaker, don't get a dog when you have kids or plan to have kids. Our own founder was bitten by a dog as a child and learned a valuable lesson. The dog wasn't euthanized or given up. The family was just more careful. We aren't talking about severe bites or aggression where euthanasia is warranted, but normal dog behavior, which says dogs can protect their own space from invasive, unknowing tiny humans. Trace will be a wonderful addition to the right home.
