Salem
Adult • Male • Large
CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Beginner (light riding only) Salem is a 2010 Tennessee Walking Horse gelding who stands at 15.1 hands tall and weighs 1,025 lbs. Salem is a docile gelding who wont hold his own when turned out with dominate horses. He needs to be pastured with other quiet mares and geldings and he is currently doing very well with our senior herd. Salem is the gentle "in your pocket" gelding everyone is looking for. He is very quiet on the ground. He will walk up to you for attention and treats and he will happily stand quietly for grooming. We were told Salem has previously sustained an injury to his back left leg. He does have a gait abnormality and a "hop" to his step. We believe this doesn't cause him any pain, but it does limit his range of motion. Salem also has overall poor conformation, making his ability to be ridden limited to a walk or slow gait. On the ground Salem isn't spooky at all, he doesn't mind loud noises, the big ball, tarp or people jumping around him, making him an excellent candidate to potently become a therapy horse. Under saddle Salem quiet both in our arena and when ridden around the farm. He would be ok with a beginner who just wants to plod around the farm or a family who wants a safe horse for their kids to love on. Salem is gentle but he is also sensitive to leg pressure and does much better when being ridden with legs off. Salem is a silly and affectionate guy who needs a home that is willing to overlook his awkwardness and appreciate his gentle nature. Clyde
Adult • Male • Large
CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Beginner Clyde is a 2012 Missouri Foxtrotter, Draft mix gelding who stands at 15 hands tall and weighs 1,134lbs. Clyde is a quiet and easy going guy who fits in nicely with a mixed herd of mares and geldings. Clyde is an easy keeper prone to laminitis so he will need a dry lot and grass mix hay with no alfalfa and no grass access. Clyde will walk right up to you in the pasture. He stands tied quietly to be groomed and he picks up all 4 feet easily. Clyde needs shoes and pads on both front feet especially if he is going to be ridden regularly, however he's currently doing ok barefoot with minimal work and occasional light riding in our arena. Clyde will stand quietly for mounting and dismounting both from the ground and a mounting block. Under saddle, he direct reins, he is more go than whoa and is best when ridden with your legs off. Clyde rides well in a snaffle and is responsive to voice cues but sensitive to leg pressure. He is very smooth and a wonderful option for a trail horse as he will ride out both alone or in a group. Clyde does require some maintenance but he is worth the investment. He will be great for a beginner that wants a solid trail horse. Chief
Adult • Male • Large
PSATURE PET Chief is a 2006 Gaited paint gelding who stands at 15.2 hands tall and weighs 1,145lbs. Chief is a playful sometimes dominate gelding who gets along well with the other geldings he's turned out with. Chief is a big bodied gaited gelding who is available as a pasture pet because he expresses an unusual form of severe anxiety under saddle. Chief is calm and relaxed with a rider on him as long as he has a handler on the ground to lead him. When the handler steps away, Chief will immediately become anxious refusing to take leadership from his rider. He will begin to paw at the ground trying to get back to the safety of his handler. The behavior does escalate and with anxiety thats deeply routed, this behavior may never be able to be corrected. For this reason, we do not consider him safe for anything but lead line rides. In the pasture Chief is easy going and holds his own in a large herd. He loves to play with the other boys, rearing, ruing around and enjoying his life. He can sometimes be slow to bond with new people but he does warm up and will fight for attention. Chief stands for the farrier, has no problem loading into a trailer alone or with other horses. He loves treats, likes to be groomed, but he is not tolerant of fly spray, baths or getting hosed off. Chief needs and understanding and kind family to offer him a pasture to call home. Buddy
Adult • Male • Large
CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner Buddy is a 2001 Tennessee Walking Horse gelding who stands at 14.3 hands tall and weighs 866lbs. Buddy came to us in 2022 after being picked up as a stray. His owner was located and said Buddy got loose. Both his original owner and the person who found him couldn't keep Buddy so he was surrendered to us. Buddy is a shy paint gelding who gets along well with the mares and geldings hes turned out with. He is a great trail horse but he has the potential to be a 4-H horse too. He has been to our county fair in 2023, where he competed and placed in contesting classes and trail. Buddy went off property to Van Burn and took a beginner rider through trails in a group with other horses from WCER in 2024. He can be a little difficult to catch but with more time to bond with his caretaker, this should improve. He loves to be groomed and he is a sucker for treats. Buddy doesn't stand well for mounting from a block but we are working with him to stand better. Under saddle, Buddy works best with a confident rider. He knows some vocal commands and is sensitive to leg pressure. Buddy is most relaxed on trails, he will both lead and follow. He has a smooth gait and keeps a consistent pace on the trail. Buddy will make someone a nice trail horse who can also compete in 4-H. Rex
Adult • Male • Medium
PASTURE PET ONLY Rex is a 2004 Mule who stands at 12.2 hands tall and weighs 652 lbs. Rex is a hesitant but inquisitive gelding. He loves living on full turnout and hes very social with the other equines he shares a pasture with. Rex is watchful and vocal, he is the first to alert when someone new pulls up the driveway and he calls for his friends when its feeding time. Rex will happily approach people for treats and he has gotten much better about leading and standing to be groomed. Rex will sometimes bolt in hand when he gets scared but he has been improving. Rex's most troublesome issue is his fear and distrust of the farrier or anyone trying to pick up his feet. We are continuing to work with Rex and he has gotten much better with his fronts but he will need to be heavily sedated and secured to successfully trim his back hooves. Rex is available as a pasture pet and companion to other equines. He would be best matched with someone who has prior mule or donkey experience. Samson
Adult • Male • Medium
CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner Samson is a 2006 Welsh Pony who stands at 12.2 hands tall and weighs 742lbs. Samson is an easy going lovable pony and he gets along with the other ponies hes turned out with. Samson does require daily medication for Cushings and he is also on Thryo-L, both are prescribed by a veterinarian. Samson will also need a dry lot, with no assess to grass because he is an easy keeper and prone to laminates. Although he will require some special care, Samson is worth the investment and time! Samson isn't spooky, he neck reins, direct reins, he he will pick up a smooth trot and he has a nice canter. Samson rides western and english. He can go through a barrel pattern and over small jumps! Samson does test his riders like any pony will. He gets sticky at the gate and he will try to scare his riders off buy threating to be naughty or doing a small hop. If you ride him through it, he does stop and you can continue on with a nice ride. Samson does require a refresher if hes not consistently worked. Samson will make a wonderful first pony to anyone who is looking and he he would excel in 4-H with a confident child. Scamp
Senior • Male • Large
CCURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner Scamp is a 1998 Mustang mix gelding who stands at 14.3 hands tall and weighs 914lbs. Scamp fits into the middle of the heard of mares and geldings he's turned out with. Scamp is very social with both people and other equines. He can be pushy on the ground when leading and moves sometimes when grooming and tacking. Scamps personality is funny and entertaining, as he can be smart playful and hard headed all at once. Under saddle Scamp is lazy and gets bored easily, but he can be bought with treats and affection. In the arena Scamp will test his rider by not wanting to move forward and sticking at the gate. He rides best in a hackamore and he is sound for walk, trot and canter. Although he is sound, Scamp prefers not to work, but he's happy to let you sit on him as he meanders about at a walk. Out on the trail Scamp does well and is more willing to pick up the pace. He would be best matched with an confident beginner or intermediate rider who enjoys trail riding and a horse with a big personality. Squeak
Young • Male • Large
PASTURE PET ONLY Squeak is a 2017 Standardbred Gelding who stands at 16 hands tall and weighs 1,198lbs. Regal Assets or as we know him Squeak, is an off the track Standardbred Gelding who was surrendered to us for having weakness in his hind end that prevents him from being ridden. He takes many missteps when being lunged in circles but his stability seems overall consistent. He is comfortable, pasture sound and thoroughly enjoys being on full turn-out with both mares and geldings. Squeak loves treats and doesn't mind standing for scratches and a good grooming. He is easy to catch, stands well for the farrier and he will stand tied but he is rather spooky when leading in new areas. Squeak easily connects with new horses and would be a wonderful companion to anyone who is looking. Animo
Young • Male • Large
PASTURE PET ONLY Animo is a 2020 Thoroughbred gelding who stands at 15.3 hands tall and weighs 1,098lbs. Animo is a playful gelding who gets along well with the mares and geldings he is pastured with. Although Animo is a thoroughbred we are told that he was never started under saddle or raced due to the neurological deficits he was born with. In the pasture, Animo loves to run and play, he gets around with no issues, but he can be seen taking side steps with his back end occasionally and some minor weakness in his back end is noticeable when he is going up and down the hills. His condition isn't progressing and seems stable, and his strength has actually improved being on full turnout. Animo is easy to catch and lead, and does like to be brushed. Even though he has a good disposition, he is still a young thoroughbred and needs minor corrections to maintain his good manners. Animo is looking for a pasture to call home with other equine friends to keep him company. He needs a family that can give him a loving life to just be a horse. Deuces
Young • Male • Large
CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Intermediate Deuces is a 2013 Thoroughbred gelding who stands at 16.1 hands tall and weighs 1,118lbs. Deuces (Shotenough to Pop) is a handsome boy with potential to go in any direction with the right person to guide him. He gets along well with the mares and geldings he's turned out with and seems to enjoy being on full turnout. Deuces does have tender feet, he would benefit from front shoes especially for walking over gravel and rocks. He is easy to catch but he does move around for grooming and tacking. When saddling, he can be a little cinchy and correct fit is important with his high withers. Deuces will stand quietly to be mounted. When riding, Deuces is more go than whoa. He is a forward mover with a big trot and long stride at the canter. He moves from leg pressure, understands seat cues, voice cues and with more work he could learn to neck rein. Deuces will test his rider under saddle trying to go to the gate and throwing small fits in the corners. This behavior continues to improve with consistency. He has been ridden both in the arena and on trails. Trailer loading does require a calm approach with a knowledgeable handler. Deuces would be best matched with a confident intermediate rider who is looking for a life partner to bond and grow with.
