Nova
Adult • Female • Large
Meet Nova! A spirited and adventurous four-and-a-half-year-old Border Collie/American Pitbull Terrier mix from Waverly, NY, who shines with her sleek black coat accented by touches of white. Nova is a bundle of loyalty, energy, and charisma wrapped in a 65-pound package, ready to leap into the next chapter of her life with a family who shares her love for the great outdoors! True to her Border Collie roots, Nova thrives on activity and engagement. Hiking, swimming, long walks, and her latest discovery—fetch—are her favorite ways to spend the day. If you’re someone who craves adventure and fresh air, Nova might just be your perfect companion! She’s always up for exploring new trails and splashing in a cool lake by your side. Nova has a friendly and social nature when it comes to other dogs. She has done beautifully with her current canine companions and has greeted new doggy friends on outings with a wagging tail and open heart! While she hasn’t been around cats, her new family can introduce her slowly to see how she adjusts. Nova is also great with older children (she currently lives with two boys, ages 11 and 15) and could potentially thrive in a home with younger kids, given a careful and thoughtful introduction. As much as Nova loves playtime, she also appreciates a consistent routine for feeding, walking, and resting, which helps her feel balanced and secure. She’s house-trained, crate-trained, microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She knows commands like sit, stay, lay down, and “no feet” (no jumping), thanks to both her two-week professional training program and continued work at home. It’s important to note that Nova has occasionally shown resource-guarding tendencies, such as protecting toys or objects, especially when feeling overwhelmed or confused. She has also nipped in the past, though this behavior has not been seen for months. Nova thrives under the guidance of a calm and confident caregiver who understands her needs and can set clear boundaries using positive reinforcement techniques. For her comfort and safety, it’s recommended to train her to avoid situations that may trigger guarding, such as staying off furniture. Nova’s personality is as dynamic as her favorite hikes. She’s playful, affectionate, and thrives on companionship, but her ideal family will have experience with dogs like her and the time to continue building her confidence. Nova's waiting to explore the world with you, one paw at a time! If you're interested in providing Nova with a loving home, please email [email protected] for more information on adopting her! Please note that Nova will remain with her current family until a suitable new home is found for her. Also, Nova is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!
Penny
Adult • Female • Large
Meet Penny! Penny is a spirited six-year-old Coonhound Mix from Cincinnati, OH, who is equal parts playful, loyal, and affectionate. Wrapped in a sleek black coat with soulful eyes that will melt your heart, Penny is the kind of companion who will always be by your side—whether on a long walk, playing a game of tug-of-war, or curled up next to you on the couch. Penny thrives on routine, loves her daily walks, and is always up for an adventure (as long as she has a fenced yard to keep her from roaming too far!). She’s incredibly smart and food-motivated, making her eager to learn new tricks—she already knows sit, down, spin, and place, and is working on mastering stay and recall. She has a wonderfully goofy personality and isn’t shy about showing affection, often giving her signature "dog hug" headbutts or gazing at you with complete devotion. Because Penny prefers to have all the attention to herself, she would do best as the only pet in a calm, structured home. She can feel nervous around other dogs and small children, so she’s looking for an adopter who understands her needs and will provide a patient, loving environment. She is crate-trained, house-trained, and comfortable being left alone for short periods, though she’ll always be happiest when she’s with her person. Penny does have some anxiety, particularly around storms and the vet, but she’s a resilient girl who just needs reassurance in those moments. Penny is already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on allergy medication to keep her feeling her best. If you’re looking for an affectionate, fun-loving companion who will fill your home with love and laughter, Penny just might be the perfect match for you! To make sure that Penny has a great start with her new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation. Are you ready to meet your new best friend? If you're interested in providing Penny with a loving home, please email [email protected] for more information on adopting her! Please note that Penny will remain with her current family until a suitable new home is found for her. Also, Penny is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!
Augusta
Adult • Female • Large
Meet Augusta! Augusta is a striking almost five-year-old American Pitbull Terrier/German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix from Indianapolis, IN, whose intelligence and devotion make her an extraordinary companion for the right person. Weighing 65 pounds, she is strong, sturdy, and full of personality. With her beautiful tricolor coat and deep brown eyes, Augusta is a head-turner and a loyal companion ready for a fresh start. Augusta is a recent training graduate who has worked hard on her leash manners, impulse control, and focus. She walks beautifully on a leash alongside her person and has embraced crate training, happily settling into her cozy retreat when asked. She thrives on consistency and enjoys focusing on her handler, making her an excellent partner for continued positive reinforcement training. Her love for people shines in her constant desire for snuggles and companionship. She is incredibly smart and food-motivated, quickly picking up on cues when treats are involved. While she has made great strides in training, she still benefits from a structured home where her boundaries are respected. She has a history of being defensive when she feels uncertain, including one incident where she bit a neighbor on the ankle. Because of this, she would do best with an experienced pet guardian who understands how to manage her interactions and provide ongoing structure. Augusta thrives with an active lifestyle and would do well in a home where she can enjoy physical exercise and mental enrichment. She is best suited as the only pet in an adult-only home with a guardian who has experience handling high-energy dogs and is committed to maintaining her progress. With patience, training, and a consistent routine, Augusta has the potential to settle beautifully into a home where she feels safe and understood. To ensure a successful transition, we offer a free consultation with a canine behaviorist to help Augusta continue her progress in her new home. Could you be the experienced family Augusta needs? If you're interested in providing Augusta with a loving home, please email [email protected] for more information on adopting her! Please note that Augusta will remain with her current family until a suitable new home is found for her. Also, Augusta is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!
