Benji
Senior • Male • Small
10 year old Benji (Ben) is a sweet, laid-back boy who has made a major transformation in the month that we have been fostering him. When he came to us his eyes were in bad shape and painful (dry eye). He would not let us touch his face. We got him to an ophthalmologist who prescribed him the proper medications and he is looking and feeling much better. We have built his trust and he now lets us administer his eye drops. In addition to his eyes, Ben was sedentary and overweight. We have been helping him lose some weight. He now takes short walks and navigates the three steps into and out of the house. He’s even chasing toys. He’s enjoying his walks and LOVES car rides. Ben likes to be with you and will follow you everywhere. He’s affectionate and a great couch companion. He’s totally housebroken and food motivated. Special Needs: Ben’s dry eye condition will require eye drops twice a day for the rest of his life. He has some visual impairment but it does not seem to stop him. He will need someone who will continue to help him lose weight and build his strength/mobility. He gets along with other dogs but he may do well as an only dog or be with another small, laid-back dog. We do not know about cats. We’ve been told that he can become aggressive in stressful situations such as the vet and groomer. We administered Gabapentin and Trazadone for the ophthalmologist and he was fine for his exam. I’ve bathed him a couple of times now (no meds) and he was fine. He will have a full groom later this month. Ben would do well in a calm household where someone is there most of the time. While not a dealbreaker a ranch home or limited steps would be best NOTE- WE DO NOT RESPOND TO PETFINDER AUTOMATIC INQUIRIES/MATCH PROFILES.
