Rosabella
Adult • Female • Large
Meet Rosabella! Despite the racoon eyes, she was not up all night partying, and she did not get sucker-punched. But her unique markings are sure to make her stand out in a crowd! This tall, lanky lady is looking for her person! She loves all people. She is a playful, affectionate girl, and would like you to dote on her. She gets along with male dogs of a similar size. She has a bit of energy and would love a more active adopter -- some hiking, long walks, and a fenced yard for games of fetch sound ideal. She is a solid, strong girl, so a home with older kids is preferred, as she will likely knock over anyone without decent balance. No cats or small creatures, as they are too fun to chase. Rosabella is estimated to be between 1 - 2 years old, so she needs to work on her manners and her leash walking skills. She is a suspected Coonhound/Pry mix, but your guess is as good as ours! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at https://bigfluffydogs.com/adopt/adoption-application/ and email [email protected] Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM PETFINDER: WE DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL INQUIRIES WITHOUT AN APPLICATION. WE REGRET WE CANNOT RESPOND TO EVERY EMAIL, BUT UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU EXIST. All known information about an individual dog is provided in its listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters should understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for 1.) Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only hold it for one hour per month of age (i.e. a 4-month-old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break). 2.) Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise. 3.) Socialization. The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home. 4.) Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well-adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded ten-fold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy. Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time-consuming and can be expensive. All dogs require supervision with children and obedience training. Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well trained, well-socialized dog is more than worth the effort to get them there.
Poppy
Adult • Female • Large
Meet Poppy -- queen of the castle! Poppy is a 4-year-old Great Pyrenees who was surrendered to us for being, you guessed it, a failed livestock guardian. Let's just say Poppy is not a fan of goats ?Poppy is also not a fan of anything small that runs -- think cats, rabbits, squirrels, and the like. She is fine with dogs in her presence, but if they come in a little too hot, she feels the need to show them who's boss; she is the queen after all. With that, we feel Poppy would likely do best as the only pet in her future home, where she can soak up all the love and attention. She is sweet as pie when it comes to people and wants pets from whoever she can get them from. She's a bit of a velcro dog and wants to be where her people are. Poppy would love a home with a fenced yard where she can watch over her domain and keep those pesky creatures away from your flower garden. If you've got two hands to pet her and a couch for her to claim as her thrown, consider bringing this gorgeous girl into your family. Poppy is currently in Nashville, TN but can travel. Commands known: Sit, lay down, shake, rollover Crate trained: Yes, but it’s not my favorite place Potty trained: Yes Needs a fenced yard: Yes Needs another dog in the home: No Location: Grove City, OH Are you looking for a dog that loves to play and run? How about a dog that loves a good belly rub? How about a super smart dog, who knows a lot of commands, and is eager to learn more? How about a dog that loves food and will do just about anything for a treat-filled Kong? How about a dog that loves to curl up for hours with you on the sofa or bed? I may be just the dog you are looking for... My name is Aquarius, but I know myself more as Fiona/Fifi. Because I have a high energy level, a backyard with a tall fence is very important to me. I spent the first years of my life being an only dog with 3 young human siblings. Because of my solo dog lifestyle, I am not great at sharing my dog toys, but I sure love to steal them from my foster siblings and run away so they can chase me. My foster mom says I struggle with something called anxiety and I am given daily medication to help reduce my anxiousness around new people and situations. I am looking for a home that will help me continue my confidence-building journey. I know I am super smart, at least that is what everyone tells me, and would excel at all types of training and activities. I am so smart I even know when it’s time for me to go outside, or if it’s getting close to breakfast and dinner time. I will even bring my food bowl to you, so you won’t forget. It’s like having a furry alarm clock to keep you on track. If you think we have qualities we are both looking for please consider adopting me. I am spayed, UTD on all vaccines and prevention. Coco
Adult • Female • Large
• Name: Coco • Male or female? Female (Spayed) • Approximate Age: 4.5 years • Breed: American Staffordshire terrier mix • Weight: 64 • Any impairments: No • Potty trained? Yes • Crate trained? Yes • Good with other dogs? No, she needs to be the only dog in the home. • Good with cats? No • Good with kids? Yes • Commands known: Sit, Stay, Shake, Let’s Go • Needs fenced in yard? Not necessarily. • Need another dog in the home? No • Location: Raymond, OH • Energy level (high/med/low)? Medium • Bio: HISTORY/ABOUT ME Believe it or not, the spouse of my previous owner wanted to shoot me. Thankfully, someone found out about me and was able to get me surrendered… and I didn’t take me long to forgive the world and decide to love on and trust my foster parents. All I want to do is to be by your side and sit in your lap. If I ever stray from there, it’s because my coonhound nose has me on another trail! FENCING/PLAY/OTHER DOGS My foster family doesn’t have a fence, so we are using 100’ leads. I’ve learned the length of them so I stop before the lead runs out. I also know when to slow down on my lead when my foster mom yells ‘careful’! I am also ready to chase any small thing I see, so I’m thinking I might be more comfortable in a large fenced yard. I love to play with my tug toy and toss it around with my family! And then I’m happy to rest and chew on my chew toys. I’ve met Huskies and German Shepherds at the dog park and had no issues saying hello. I wasn’t really interested in playing with them because I was too busy checking out all of the new smells! But, I saw a small dog at the dog park once from far away and my foster mom got nervous because I look at the cats in my house the same way. I just want to chase them! PROOF I’M A GOOD PAL: Because of the cats in my house, I have to live in my own separate room. I have not destroyed anything in the house and only play with what I’m supposed to. But, I’m lonely and I just want to be with my humans. Sometimes, my foster mom stays the night with me and I’m truly the greatest cuddler. I either lay across her legs or as close to her as possible. I don’t have a reason to go in a crate, but I do go in very easily and behave, if needed. I’m also great in and out of the car! I go right to the back seat and sit behind my foster mom. I love to have the window cracked to smell all of the smells. If it’s a longer ride, I even lay down for a nap. MEDICAL INFO: My previous owners didn’t have me on regular flea/tick prevention and I ended up getting Lyme Disease. I don’t have any clinical symptoms, am now on monthly flea and tick prevention, and took my course of antibiotics. I should go to the vet every year for a quick blood check to make I’m still healthy, but it hasn’t affected my life at all! I did have a bit of anxiety when I first met my foster family. I’m just the happiest when I’m with my people. I started taking the medication, Fluoxetine, that I easily take once a day tucked in a pill pocket and it’s helped me so much! Just to be on the safe side, my foster mom muzzles me when we go to the vet and I don’t give her any trouble when she puts it on. I love everyone! Sometimes I get a little concerned when someone is on my property that I don’t know, but as soon as they come say hello, they are immediately my new friend. I JUST WANT TO BE LOVED: If my foster family didn’t have so many indoor cats, they said they would love for me to stay here. They say I’m pretty perfect. But, we both know I’d be so much happier if I could be with my family all the time. I really just want to be your best friend. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ~Coco is also looking for a new foster until she finds her forever home~ ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ***PLEASE READ*** WE DO NOT RESPOND TO PETFINDER OR EMAIL INQUIRIES. Shadow **courtesy post**
Adult • Female • Large
***Courtesy Post*** Name: Shadow Gender: Female Spayed and UTD on all vaccines Age: 3 years old Breed: American Pitbull Approximate weight: 75 pounds Impairments: none Potty trained: yes Good with dogs: yes Good with cats: yes Needs fenced yard: preferred but not necessary. Needs other dogs: she could be an only dog or enjoy a fur sibling Knows several commands: “Shadow come” “go potty” “down”, etc. Location: Columbus, Ohio Energy level: medium Hi, I am Shadow. I am a 3 year old female spayed white American Pitbull. I am told frequently that I am a pretty girl. I was rescued six months ago because my previous owners couldn’t afford to feed me. I have gained several pounds since I have been in my foster home. I weigh about 75 pounds right now. Things I love: Playing outside Giving kisses People Being close to you Food! I am looking for my forever home and a best friend. I think I am a lap dog like my sisters (3 chihuahuas). I want to play with them, but they are too little to play with me. I wish I had a playmate closer to my size so we can play. I get along well with everybody. I live with 3 chihuahuas and I also live with numerous cats and two guinea pigs. I don’t have a fenced in yard to play in, but there are several outdoor cats that hang around outside and I am a good girl and don’t do anything to hurt them. Actually, I don’t have any interest in cats. I would really enjoy a fenced in yard that I can run and play in. Because I don’t have a fenced in yard now, I am boundary trained. I stay where I have been taught to go potty. I am a very smart girl and I learn quickly. I am a happy sweet girl with a great personality. I know my name and want you to be happy with me, so it doesn’t take me long to pick up things that you try to teach me. I love to give kisses. I am very loving and friendly. I love sleeping with my foster mom and chihuahua sisters. I have to admit that I am quite spoiled at this point. When I come in from pottying I get a milkbone for being such a good girl. It is not my fault that I am being rehomed. My foster home has too many animals and I am a little too big for their house. They are looking for great home for me. If I sound like a good fit for your home, please contact: Lesa Grotsky-Bryant – (614) 928-2929 Email – [email protected]
Kalea
Adult • Female • Large
Introducing.. Kalea! Kalea is a 5 year old, 65lb Anatolian Shepherd/Pyrenees mix who came to us from a Texas animal shelter. She’s the full package.. beauty, brains and sweetness! This is a typical Livestock Guardian Dog girl who has a very short wishlist for her forever home: 1. Humans who will give her scratches and attention 2. Comfortable locations in the home for her frequent naps 3. A secure, tall fenced yard for her to enjoy outside time - she loves feeling the breeze on her fluff! Kalea gets along with other calm dogs after proper introductions, is cat friendly, and would do well with kids of a respectful age (8+). She would be just as happy rocking life as a solo dog. Kalea walks well on leash, rides well in the car, and is learning the life of being a proper beloved house pet. Located in Nashville, TN and can transport to any of our Petfinder locations! Meet Sadie: The Gloriously Awkward Underdog Looking for Her Forever Home
Adult • Female • Large
Let’s just get this out of the way: Sadie is not a traditionally beautiful dog. She’s not the kind of dog who turns heads at the park or wins over potential adopters with a perfect golden coat and soulful, symmetrical eyes. No, Sadie is... different. She's what happens when you take a German Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog, Shar Pei, and Boxer, throw them all into a gene pool, stir vigorously, and see what comes out. Spoiler: it’s Sadie. She’s got a tiny head, strange little ears, a long tongue that never seems to stay put, a thick body that moves like a bag of bricks in a windstorm, and a tail that’s… honestly, barely there. When she runs, she resembles a velociraptor that just learned it had knees. It's awkward, it's hilarious, and it's so very Sadie. But here's the thing: once you meet her, you realize she's amazing. Sadie is 8 years old and weighs just under 100 pounds. She’s been waiting over three years for someone to take a chance on her, which feels borderline criminal considering what an absolute gem she is under all that awkward charm. She’s incredibly well-trained — housebroken, leash-savvy, and she even knows how to use those talking buttons (yes, really). She's basically fluent in “please love me.” She doesn’t know a stranger, welcomes everyone like a long-lost friend, and is the perfect combination of sweet, goofy, and totally one-of-a-kind. Now, let’s be honest — Sadie has some preferences. She needs to be the only pet in the home, but she’s totally fine seeing other animals out in the world. She's also best suited for families with kids 12 and up, not because she’s aggressive, but because she deserves a little peace and predictability in her golden years. So why has Sadie been overlooked? Well… people can be shallow. Put her next to a golden retriever and the golden’s going home before you can say “fetch.” Sadie? She’ll be in the corner looking like someone drew a dog from memory and got distracted halfway through. But that’s the thing — if you can look past the exterior and see the goofy, loving, smart, loyal dog underneath, you’ll find a once-in-a-lifetime companion. Sadie doesn't want perfect. She wants someone who will laugh at her zoomies, appreciate her weird proportions, and let her be her delightfully strange self. After three years of waiting, she's more than ready to go home. So… are you the person brave enough to adopt the underdog? Or in this case — the underdork? Kanga
Adult • Female • Medium
BIOS Name: Kanga Male or female? Female Approximate Age: Born Feb. 23, 2021 Breed: Labrador Retriever Weight: 45lbs Any impairments: Blind, Seizure Disorder Potty trained? Mostly Crate trained? Yes Good with other dogs? Yes Good with cats? Yes Good with kids? With close monitoring Commands known: Due to her neurological condition she is unable to learn most commands. Needs fenced in yard? Yes Need another dog in the home? Ideally Location: Delaware/Columbus, OH Energy level (high/med/low)? High Bio: My name is Kanga and I'm SO EXCITED to meet you! I'm a gorgeous, spunky chocolate lab who is looking for a family to call mine and who will love me forever and ever. My journey for a family started when I was purchased from a breeder at 8 weeks old and then returned the same day when they realized I was blind and had a seizure. The breeder then brought me to a vet office to be euthanized! Well, luckily they were super nice and one of the techs said 'no way!' She took me in for a few months to get me healthy and then reached out to Speak who was happy to take me in. Speak got me tons of specialized testing and vet care and found out I have an unknown seizure disorder and congenital optic nerve hypoplasia. In normal people words, that means I was born blind and unfortunately there's no treatment for this but I've never known any different and this condition should never cause me any additional problems in the future. I eat a special food and also take multiple medications to help with my seizures. I will need a family who has a close relationship with my veterinarian and understands that I am a special needs pup who will require frequent check ups and unique medical care lifelong. My new family would ideally have a history of caring for special-needs pets. I happily live with cats and dogs and do very well with everyone. I'm a young, silly girl and so I run into things a lot including my foster siblings but I always respond immediately when they "politely" ask that I not step on their tails. I don't bother our kitties; since I can't see them I'm not even sure if I know they're there. I'm blind, so I march really cutely when I walk to 'map' the area and am known to be a bit of a klutz. I need close monitoring when I am out of my kennel because I don't always realize that the things I find aren't for puppers. I love to meet people and am the most friendly little pup you've ever met but because of my mouth-for-eyes I probably wouldn't do well with a family with children. I would do best with a family who is home frequently to keep an eye on me and keep my puppy brain entertained. I would love some very tolerant fur friends/siblings to help guide and teach me things and who love to wrestle! I do well in my crate and love to run circles or play with toys in the backyard. I'm working on leash walking but am doing okay with a 2 clip harness to help direct me. Like any good Labrador, I LOVE FOOD and food puzzle toys (Kongs, snuffle mats, wobble balls). If you're looking for an amazing, jumping, hilarious, special little pup I'm your girl! I promise to make you smile every day and love you forever. However, when given time to adjust to her new home and allowed to get comfortable with her new people, begins to show her fun and sassy side. She is blind and deaf but like most dogs with these impairments, can get along and adjust quickly. She loves her cage and uses it like her safe place. Even though it is hers, she does allow a couple of her foster siblings to come in and nap with her. She has recently started chewing on antlers and crinkle animals. She enjoys exploring the yard in the fenced area and gets along well with her foster siblings. She is great about letting me know vocally when she needs to go out and loves peanut butter and treats. She also has started to lay on my legs when I have the footrest extended. If you are looking for a very sweet and loving young girl, please apply through Speak! For The Unspoken. Chick Pea
Adult • Female • Medium
• Name: Chick Pea • Male or female? Female • Approximate Age: 7-9 yrs • Breed: Catahoula/Aussie/Cattle dog • Weight: 50 lbs • Any impairments: Blind • Potty trained? Yes • Crate trained? Yes • Good with other dogs? No • Good with cats? No • Good with kids? No • Commands known: Sit, down, touch, crate, wait, ok • Needs a fenced-in yard? No • Needs another dog in the home? No • Location: Columbus, OH • Energy level (high/med/low)? low Hi, I'm Chick Pea! I'm a low-energy, veggie-loving lady looking for love in a no-dogs, no-cats, no-kids household. You might think I'm asking too much, but I'm worth it! I'm old enough to be trusted alone all day, don't require much exercise, make the cutest snorts and snarfles, looooove car rides, and am a good girl at the vet. Plus, I've got perfect bloodwork for a 7-9 year old dog (reason for testing is no longer a concern). Maybe better than yours! Oh, I forgot that these baby blues don't do much, so I'm pretty much blind. My eyes may get worse with age, but I will impress you with my super hearing and ability to map new spaces. I am ok with apartment living, but I’d love someplace a little quieter. I thrive on routine and knowing what's going on, so if you have lots of visitors or changes, I'm not the one for you. Because I can't see and have herding instincts, I sometimes react to unexpected movements or sounds. I worked with a trainer and have learned all the important techniques for how to cope with new things like visitors, loud noises, and passing by other dogs. My foster mom will help you practice everything. You should know that I really love my foster mom, so I'll be pretty confused when she's not around, and I'll need you to be patient with me and help me adjust to all the new things. An experienced dog owner would be best for me - I need you to be in charge and look out for me so I can just be a relaxed, lazy doggo and live my best life. Even though I'm pretty picky, everyone at Speak loves me so much and they really want me to find the forever home I deserve! Chick Pea is currently being fostered in Columbus, Ohio. She would do best in a home without young children or fur siblings. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines and preventions.
