Cason
Young • Male • Large
Meet Cason! Cason is a 3-year-old, 87-pound Anatolian Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his head—and trust us, that’s saying something. This sweet and goofy boy is equal parts lovable and airborne. Yes, you read that right. Cason has a signature move where he jumps straight up into the air like a canine trampoline artist, usually with a big smile on his face and zero apologies for his enthusiasm. Cason is friendly and playful with other dogs and politely ignores cats, making him a great fit for a multi-pet home. He has medium energy—he’s always up for a romp or a good play session, but he also knows how to settle down when it’s time to relax. He walks well on a leash and thrives in the company of people and pups alike. While he can be a little shy in new situations or with unfamiliar faces, it doesn’t take long for his goofy personality to shine through. What makes Cason extra special is his big, expressive face that seems to always be caught in the middle of a grin, and his joyful, bouncy spirit that brings instant smiles to everyone around him. He’s a people-pleaser who’s eager to be loved, but he does need an adopter who’s willing to work with his jumpiness and help him keep all four paws on the ground—at least occasionally. Due to his size and tendency to pogo-stick himself into people’s personal space, we recommend older, sturdy kids who won’t topple like bowling pins during his enthusiastic greetings. If you’re looking for a dog with personality, sweetness, and just the right amount of derpy charm, Cason could be your perfect match. He’s ready to leap into your life—and probably your arms—with love, laughter, and plenty of tail wags. Adopt Cason. Jump for joy. (Or at least duck when he does!) NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM PETFINDER: WE DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL INQUIRIES WITHOUT AN APPLICATION. WE REGRET WE CANNOT RESPOND TO EVERY EMAIL, BUT UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU EXIST. All known information about an individual dog is provided in its listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters should understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for 1.) Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only hold it for one hour per month of age (i.e. a 4-month-old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break). 2.) Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise. 3.) Socialization. The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home. 4.) Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well-adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded ten-fold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy. Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time-consuming and can be expensive. All dogs require supervision with children and obedience training. Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well trained, well-socialized dog is more than worth the effort to get them there.
Brodie
Young • Male • Medium
Brodie came to BFDR when his owner had to have surgery and, as the story usually goes, he wasn't getting the time and attention he deserved. He is a sweet, playful boy who can be shy initially, but is a total lover. He gets along well with other dogs but is very interested in cats, so a home with no cats or thug kitties would be best. At 18 months old, he could use some basic obedience, but he is housebroken and walks ok on a leash. He would do best in a more active home, though he does have an off switch. Wookie
Young • Male • Medium
Everyone, please meet the wonderful Wookie! If you're a Star Wars fanatic, you’ll find that this pup embodies everything a wookiee is known for in the movies—loyal, intelligent, strong, and with just the right touch of sophistication! At 4 years old and 53 lbs, Wookie will always have your back. He’ll be the Chewbacca to your Han Solo day in and day out. Wookie is the definition of a ham and a goober! He’s a solid chunk of love, and his favorite thing is making people laugh. If he had gone to high school, he would’ve been voted class clown! Wookie’s life operates on two modes: energizer bunny and sleeping potato. His ideal home would be with an active family who can keep his mind and body stimulated, followed by cozy cuddle sessions on the couch to binge-watch whatever you’re into. Wookie would prefer an adopter who’s home often—he’d love to nap at your feet while you work from home. He’s great with kids 8+ and would thrive as the only pet in the house. Wookie isn’t a fan of dogs, cats, or woodland creatures (he’s the "no pets" type), though he’s happy to hang out with them outside the home. True to his wookiee namesake, this boy will shower you with all the love, loyalty, and attention you could ever need! If you’re ready to become the Han Solo to this lovable wookie, apply online at https://bigfluffydogs.com/adopt/adoption-application/ and then email [email protected]! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. Le Chomp
Young • Male • Small
Le Chomp; aliases Chomp Chomp, Chompers, Bubby, Lover Boy, Ambassador of Spare Parts and “Teef”. Le Chomp is a lovely blend of Chihuahua, Pug and Bulldog in a 20.5 pound body. He is a stage 5 Clinger, approximately 2 years old and the best snuggle buddy you could ask for on a cold winters night! What he lacks in fluff, he makes up for in sheer body heat. He will nestle under the covers and harvest that body heat keeping you warm and toasty better than any heating blanket on the market. This vivacious redhead is not only snuggly, warm and handsome but he is loyal, loving, quirky in all the best ways AND he greets each new day with a happiness that is contagious. Like most redheads, he has a spice and pizzazz unparalleled by the lesser canines:) He must judge each mortal newcomer, visitor or delivery man with some degree of discretion before surmising that they are trustworthy allies……must be the Chihuahua in him:) Le Chomp is dog friendly with dogs of all sizes, a terrorist to kitties everywhere and best in a home with teenage aged children and up. Chomp is house-trained, crate trained, complete with perfect house manners and sleeps in bed just in case that wasn’t clear:) Le Chomp is adoptable and ready to share the rest of his days making someone a very lucky recipient of his LOVE. Akira
Adult • Female • Large
Meet Akira ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Akira, a 5 year old spayed female, Staffordshire mix, 62lbs. She is in foster home in Houston, TX and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Gorgeous girl Akira is looking for an active family to call her own! This high energy pup loves her walks and to play in the yard. She is still learning not to pull, but listens and follows commands well when out and about. After her days on the streets, she’s a bit of a scavenger and will try to eat any “found” treats outside or indoors. Akira does take some time to warm up to new people and dogs. Once she knows she can trust you, you’ll have a friend for life! She’ll need slow introductions to visitors and seems to prefer male pups. She has done well around the children she’s met, but because of her energy level, we do recommend older, dog savvy kids. Her foster mom believes she would like to have another dog friend in her new home, and a well balanced pup could help Akira learn to feel safer in the world. This smartie is house and kennel trained too! Akira is nervous in the car, but with time and training, we hope she’ll learn that she’s not going to be left behind ever again. Akira may not have had the best start in life, but we’re so excited to see her thriving in a loving forever home! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. ___ Meet Penny – a 2-year-old, 62-pound spayed female Shepherd/Husky mix with a bright spirit, big heart, and a whole lot of love to give. Penny is currently in a foster home in SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up. Penny is a fun-loving, affectionate, and outgoing girl who thrives in an environment where she can stay active, engaged, and close to her people. A typical mix of two intelligent, energetic breeds, she’s curious, social, and always on the lookout for her next adventure—or someone to cuddle. She currently lives with several other dogs and enjoys the company of canine friends who match her playful energy and size. Penny is still learning the finer points of dog social etiquette and can come on a little strong during play, especially with smaller or more timid dogs. She’s shown she does best with confident, medium-to-large dogs who are comfortable setting healthy boundaries. She’s a young dog who’s still figuring things out and thrives when given structure and guidance. While she hasn't been tested directly with cats indoors, she has shown prey-driven behavior toward them outdoors, so a cat-free home is recommended. Penny has been around toddlers and older children, but given her exuberance and herding instincts, we believe she'd do best in a home with older teens or adults who understand dog behavior and can help her channel her energy in positive ways. Penny is fully house-trained and has done well being confined to a designated area when home alone, although she is still learning to be fully comfortable with separation. She hasn’t been crate trained yet and prefers to be close to her people. She may whine or bark when separated, but this stems from her deep bond with her humans—she truly just wants to be near you. She can be trusted loose in the house when items are picked up and food is put away, but like many playful pups, she has a soft spot for chewing on dog beds when bored. Leash walks are one of Penny’s favorite things. She gets excited at first but settles in with guidance. She would absolutely love an adopter who enjoys walks, hikes, runs, or sniffy adventures, as Penny is at her best when she’s given consistent mental and physical outlets for her energy. She’s smart, eager to please, and ready to work—but she also needs someone who will go at her pace and give her time to relax into a routine. Penny is incredibly affectionate and emotionally tuned into her people. She will happily snuggle beside you, lay her head in your lap, and gaze up at you with her expressive, soulful eyes. She loves love, and she gives it back tenfold once she feels safe and understood. That said, Penny has likely experienced past trauma. She flinches easily and shows signs of needing reassurance and calm, consistent care. Her ideal home will be one that provides structure, patience, and understanding, and that doesn’t expect her to be perfect right away. With time and support, Penny will continue to blossom into a confident, loyal, and deeply devoted companion. She can be protective of her space and high-value items like food or toys around other dogs, so her foster separates her at mealtime and when giving treats. These are manageable behaviors that respond well to clear boundaries and respectful management, and she’s made great progress in foster care. Penny is a sweet, sensitive soul who’s eager to bond deeply with her forever person or people. She’s playful, loving, and endlessly cuddly—but she also needs a home that can meet her where she is and give her the time, structure, and love she deserves. With the right match, Penny will be an incredibly rewarding and joyful companion. If you’re looking for a smart, snuggly, and slightly goofy sidekick who just wants to be loved and understood, Penny might be your perfect match. ___ ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. ___ Flor is a 6-year-old spayed Bulldog mix currently living in a loving foster home in Houston, Texas. She weighs around 85 pounds and is on a little weight-loss journey with her foster mom—just about 10 pounds to go! She’s hoping her future family will continue supporting her healthy habits with portion control and regular walks, which she absolutely loves. She's available for out of state transport arranged by our rescue once matched with an approved adopter! This sweet girl is incredibly friendly and thrives around people of all ages. She recently impressed everyone at a small house gathering by warmly greeting guests and soaking up all the attention. Flor has been great with kids as young as 10, enjoying gentle pets and scratches. Like with any dog, she’ll do best in a home where children understand and respect animal boundaries. Flor has lived with other dogs in the past and recently worked with a trainer to assess her comfort level after a previous incident where she was attacked by a resident dog while unsupervised. Despite that scary experience, she’s continued to show positive behavior. Her trainer noted that while she can be initially nervous, she quickly relaxes and demonstrates solid social skills. She would do best with slow introductions and would likely thrive with a confident dog buddy. Her current foster home doesn’t have other pets, but she’s met dogs on walks and even had a sweet, friendly interaction with a stranger’s dog in the neighborhood. Flor doesn’t seem to be cat-friendly—she’s been known to chase after stray cats in the yard—so a feline-free home is best. She is housebroken, crate-trained, and has great manners in the home. She does pull a little on leash at first but settles down quickly and enjoys her walks immensely. She’s also learning to be gentle when taking treats, and her foster mom helps her practice good manners every day. Affectionate and adaptable, Flor tends to mirror the energy around her. She’s currently in a more laid-back home and does great, but she’d have no problem keeping up with a more active lifestyle. She rides wonderfully in the car and is always excited to spend time with her humans. Her foster mom describes her as silly, sweet, and incredibly loving. Flor is both independent and loyal, happily following her people from room to room. She loves belly rubs, picks up on things quickly, and when she’s really excited, she does the cutest little bunny hop or tap-dance! Flor is ready to bring joy, companionship, and a little bit of comedy to her forever home. She’s available for out-of-state transport to the right family—could that be you? ___ ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. She’s submissive and loves to just be in the mix wherever you are. She’s still learning how to dog and would love a well balanced BFF to show her the ropes in her new home. She currently lives and plays with another similar sized, high energy pup and is figuring out how to contain her enthusiasm. She does stop when she’s had enough fun and is ready to get some belly rubs and cuddle time with her humans! This silly girl LOVES to hoard her toys and is figuring out that they’re fun to play with too! She likes to relax on her back with her paws in the air and gives you the cutest smile in the world! Dory is super sweet and has done well with the older kids (10YO+) she’s met. She does need some time to warm up to new people and may bark a bit until she figures out that they are her new friends. Our smartie girl is house and crate trained and walks well on a leash! She will bark at other dogs on her walks, but her foster parents have been working with her to help her feel safe. Dory has been improving with their training and believe she will figure it out soon! Dory is a dream pup that will fit into almost any home! She is in a foster home in Austin, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. This gorgeous girl’s owner became homeless and put Kaleesi in a boarding facility believing it would be a better life. Unfortunately, she ended up being starved and neglected in a kennel. She ended up on the euthanasia list in the county shelter, but thankfully, an amazing foster family said yes. Because of their love and care, Kaleesi has blossomed into an amazing companion and is now ready to find her forever home. Cleo’s past is heartbreaking—emaciated, covered in sores and urine burns, with long & broken nails—but you’d never guess it meeting her now. This girl is *all heart*, and she’s come so far with love, care, and the company of a confident dog friend. Cleo is the goofiest, most loyal sidekick with soulful Disney eyes and a passion for fetch (like she’s making up for lost time!). She loves to follow you—yes, even to the bathroom—and will do anything to please her person. She’s well-trained, adoring, curious, and bravely pushes through her fears. “Do it scared” might as well be her motto. She’s still healing her little nervous system—can startle easily and needs a calm, patient home to continue building confidence. Her sensitive skin is manageable, and while she loves short hikes, her feet might not handle anything super rugged. Cleo thrives with another playful, confident pup around, is dog- and cat-friendly (even tiny ones!), and would make a lifelong bestie out of a respectful kid 8+ who can handle her big-hearted enthusiasm. She’s a special girl—quirky, lovey, and ready for her forever home! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
