PENNY
Adult • Female • Medium
?Penny has the absolute WORST luck but we are hoping YOU could be her HAPPY ENDING. Penny was part of a breeder neglect case in Hocking County 2020-2021 and literally grew up in a shelter from birth to adolescence before the “evidence” made it through the court system and she and her 50 some family members were finally put up for adoption. We have no idea who or where she was adopted to but she turned up two years later in Fairfield County as a stray with a nerve injury to her right front leg that could not be repaired and required amputation. She was adopted again in 2023 only to find herself homeless again when her human mom and dad separated and opted to “start fresh” with a new puppy and dump Penny back with us as “damaged goods.” Sadly, Penny knew exactly where she was when her foster mom brought her home the night she was dumped back at the rescue … and ironically, she seemed almost relieved to be “home” again, quickly settling back into a routine, immediately finding “her crate” in the house and reconnecting with her old four legged friends. Penny is your typical Shepherd … she can be quite vocal and sometimes quite honestly obnoxious with barriers (leashes, cages, fences) but we have found that to be more talk than anything else as she has not had issues with any of the dogs we have since reintroduced her to and has lived with cats before as well. She LOVES to be outside, enjoys people of all ages, thrives on routine and is cautious of change. Penny needs stability in her life and would love a low key family with a fenced yard to choose her. Penny is approximately 4yrs old, 60lbs and spayed and current on medical care. $350 If you would like to meet PENNY please complete an application for adoption, copy and paste this link into your browser https://fs17.formsite.com/adoptionscc/form1/index Any vaccinations/boosters due after adoption is finalized will be the new owner's responsibility. All animals are current at time of adoption but in some cases a booster series is required or a vaccine cannot be given due to age and cannot be completed prior to adoption Our adoptable animals come to us from various sources, the most common being from an animal shelter who is unable to handle their physical or mental needs in the shelter setting but believe with the appropriate care, they can become adoptable.
MAEVE
Adult • Female • Medium
Patience is a virtue when it comes to rescue … it is not a race but rather a journey that we take with these abandoned, neglected and often abused souls that find their way to us. Maeve is certainly one of those souls. She was presumably abandoned in the Pickerington Reynoldsburg area earlier in the summer and ran in fear for weeks, not knowing who to trust or evade and therefore in full flight mode despite many attempts to help her. She was hit by cars at least twice and ended up with a prolapsed uterus injury at some point. True dedication from the Rico Pet Recovery team ultimately resulted in a successful capture via a live trap along I70 after many weeks of surveillance, trap relocation and many wasted meals in hopes of luring her in. Once trapped however, Maeve simply melted and has become a favorite among all that meet her. She LOVES belly rubs, is very food motivated with no regard for personal space when it comes to licking fingers, faces, bowls or counters clean, and thrives on routine. She is housebroken, crate trained, and eager to please but cautious of new people, places and things at first. She would love a family to call her own but a fenced yard is a must as she will always possess the “flight” instinct when startled as she obviously has PTSD. Since being in our care, she has filled out nicely, been spayed and had her prolapse corrected and is now current on vaccines and preventative. She still had a limp on her right rear from previous trauma that left a bone chip floating in her knee joint but it doesn’t slow her down. We estimate her to be 2-3yrs old, a Lab mix, and about 58lbs. $350 IF you would like to meet MAEVE please complete an application for adoption, copy and paste this link into your browser https://fs17.formsite.com/adoptionscc/form1/index Any vaccinations/boosters due after adoption is finalized will be the new owner's responsibility. ELLIE
Adult • Female • Small
Ellie is a sweet and soulful Shih Tzu mix, approximately 5 years old, who has overcome unimaginable neglect and cruelty. Found with several other dogs, Ellie was in the worst condition—morbidly obese, her nails painfully curled into her paw pads, her fur so severely matted it was fused to her skin, and her body covered in urine burns and feces. It was clear she had known only a life of confinement, likely in a wire cage, used for breeding and deprived of love or care. But that life is behind her now. The team at Tails of Second Chances knew Ellie deserved more—and she’s been showing us every day just how resilient and special she truly is. Ellie is a gentle soul who adores her people. She’s not one for toys or high-energy activities, but if you're looking for the perfect cuddle buddy, Ellie is your girl. Whether it's curling up with a good book, enjoying a quiet morning coffee, or relaxing on the patio at sunset, Ellie will be faithfully by your side. She gets along well with other dogs and even cats, though a home with calm, easygoing pets would be best for her temperament. Ellie has been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, but she’s already on daily medication and responding beautifully. Her weight continues to drop at a healthy pace, and her mobility has improved significantly—she’s feeling better every day. What Ellie wants most is what she’s never truly had: a family of her own to love her, spoil her, and maybe take her on a few adventures too. Could that be you? If you think you’re Ellie’s forever, apply today and help her write the next (and best) chapter of her life. HERMIE
Adult • Male • Large
Hermie is simply amazing and just an all around well balanced dog. This guy came to us by way of another veterinary hospital where he was brought in literally dying from open wounds and starvation. Although details are vague, Hermie was unable to stand on his own when we picked him up and we weren’t sure we would be able to save his leg as he had sloughed 50% of his skin from his elbow down to his wrist from injury compounded by infection. He stayed in the hospital for over a week on fluids, a refeeding program, lots of antibiotics, some physical therapy and bandage changes and was moved to a foster home about 10days after arriving to us when he was able to stand on his own. While in his foster home he received daily bandage changes to allow his body’s wounds to heal on their for two months and three time a day feedings until he was at an adequate weight … you should see him now! He is now the picture of health, a strong, agile, social and well behaved guy who is ready to find a family of his own. He loves to play with other dogs, go for walks or runs or hikes and chew on his nylabones or kongs. Cats are ok but he is super exhuberant so may be too much for most cats. Boxer mix, MN, approx 4-5yrs, 60lbs, $300 IF you would like to meet HERMIE please complete an application for adoption, copy and paste this link into your browser https://fs17.formsite.com/adoptionscc/form1/index Any vaccinations/boosters due after adoption is finalized will be the new owner's responsibility. FRANK
Senior • Male • Medium
Frank is looking for a senior soft spot to park and enjoy his last few years. He came to us by way of the dog shelter as an unclaimed stray and moved to foster to keep him comfortable as he has arthritis in his back that is not amenable to shelter life. We estimate him to be approx 10yr old MN and believe he is likely a cattledog with possibly Jack Russel terrier mix. He is a gentle senior soul that gets along with all dogs, loves to snuggle, and prefers your pillow over any dog bed. He is sensitive around his neck and a little head shy but never aggressive. He uses steps to get on and off the bed and the couch because of a narrowing in his spine that obviously limits his mobility and causes him pain at certain angles. He would be a great candidate for acupuncture +/- chiro as well as various supplements and as needed pain meds. He tolerates crating but much prefers to be loose when you are gone. His bloodwork is great for a senior dog and he just had a dental. His skin is recovering from an obvious bout of fleas but nothing of concern and he has a few dermal nodules present that are old man warts. Adoption fee $150. 30lbs If you would like to meet FRANK please complete an application for adoption, copy and paste this link into your browser https://fs17.formsite.com/adoptionscc/form1/index Any vaccinations/boosters due after adoption is finalized will be the new owner's responsibility. Grits "GiGi"
Baby • Female • Medium
Update 4/25/23 Grits Gigi 11 months, Female, Spayed 44 pounds as of April 20, 2023 Bull Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier mix Hi! I'm Grits my foster mom calls me Gigi. I'm looking for best friends! For my breed, I'm on the smaller side (I was the runt of the litter). Can you believe I didn't even weigh 3 pounds when I was 2 months old?!?! I think I have some baby pictures in my profile, check them out to see how far I've come! I'm 11 months old now, so I'm just about as big as I'm ever going to get. About me, I'm super cute and silly. My favorite things are zoomies, playing with my foster brothers and sisters, squeaky toys, peanut butter, and snuggling with my humans while I snooze. When I want attention, I'll just come up and put my head on your shoulder. I am a little unsure of new surroundings and people, but warm up very quickly. I'm being fostered in a home with 6 other dogs, so I get along well with other dogs. I am a chewer, so appropriate chew toys are a must! When I was younger, I had a cat friend, but I haven't been around any cats since I was 4 or 5 months old. I love kiddos, and I think I would be a perfect addition to a family with kids, even younger kids. If you are looking for a little cutie-patootie with loads of personality that likes to snuggle, I'm your girl! Likes: Peanut butter, squeaky toys, cuddling with humans and dogs, zoomies, playing with dogs and cats (not necessarily in that order) Dislikes: Not tasting what is being cooked in the kitchen (if something hits the floor, its fair game), and well, that's about it. Hi! My name is Grits, but my foster mom calls me Gigi and GigiMonster. Why Monster you may ask? It's because I'm being fostered in a house with 2 of my littermates, and 4 other dogs. I get along fine with all of them (when my brother steals my toys because he is a complete butthead, the demon in me comes out!!!) but I make noises that sound like a monster when I play. Also, when I sleep I snore, and my farts don't stink, but they are so loud that I'm even surprised by them (TMI, I know, but I want to be completely transparent). I hope this doesn't turn you off to my charms. Though I am small, I am energetic, spicy, playful, fun, and have a huge personality. I think I would do best in a home with space to run and another dog, or maybe even cat, to snuggle with. In the place of canine or feline companionship, I am willing to accept human companionship. I just hope you do not want to ever go to the bathroom alone, sleep alone, or eat alone. I won't steal food off of your plate, but will insist on taste testing what you have. My favorite place to sleep is wedged between you and the back of the couch, or in the bed under your arm. I like to give kisses. When I sleep, I'm dead as a doornail. I immediately gain 30 pounds, and all of my bones become noodles = good luck moving me. On a serious note, I am close to being house trained, I do ok in a kennel (we call it a dodo) for short periods. I am working on sit, down, and recall. I am motivated by treats and affection, but mostly treats. I will be ok with your dog. I like cats. I've never been around kiddos, but I'm sure I will like them too. I just like cuddles, play, and food! It's the trifecta!
Jade
Young • Female • Medium
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. - Courtesy Post- MeetJade (female) is a darling 5 year old Yorie-chon, black, gray and tan coloring, wavy hair and floppy ears. She's a true lovey, devoted lap dog and loves to lay on someone's lap, legs or right beside them, even in bed. She will settle down a bit if put in a crate but does not seek a crate independently and does not currently sleep in one at night. She would much rather lay beside her human. Playful, loves walks, and carrying around 2-3 of her favorite small stuffies. Jade gets along with her cat sister, tempting her to chase her and even curls up wanting cat kisses (grooming from the cat). She is eager to approach other dogs and all humans but is a little afraid at first with bigger dominating dogs until they get to know each other better. She does bark quite a bit at strange sounds she hears and if she thinks someone is leaving the house. Jade has some anxiety with people leaving the house and will try to grab onto their pants to keep them home. For that reason she may do better in homes without small children or may need some behavior training to help. She will run so it is recommended that she be on a leash when outside. She is chipped and does well with grooming appointments. She was trained with poochie bells to ring when she needs to go outside but now uses talking buttons for outside, eat, and water. Please contact Shannon with any additional questions for Jade's adoption AND fill out an adoption application.
