Life hasn’t been kind to me. I entered rescue starved for food and love, having spent my early years locked away in a backyard, with a brother who attacked me constantly instead of being a playmate. Because of that, I’m scared of new people at first. I bark to protect myself from what I don’t understand. But the moment I see you mean well—and you offer me a treat—I become your best friend and lean into you. I’ll follow you anywhere. I crave affection, safety, and someone who won’t give up on me. I need to be the only dog in the home—not because I’m aggressive, but because I’m terrified. Years of being attacked has taught me that hiding behind my person is the safest place to be.
