Ares
Young • Male • Medium
Meet handome Ares! He is a very sweet boy who is looking for his perfect family! He is four and a half years old and is a petite boy! He is a very goofy boy who gets cold very easily so he loves to wear sweaters! He is a very laidback pup who loves to nap on the couch all morning! He loves to watch the TV with you but hates any dogs on screen or anything that could possibly be a dog. Ares isn’t much into chew toys but loves a good treat! Bully sticks are his favorite! Ares is currently working through relearning his basic recall commands and building his confidence. He will need a patience and positive reinforcement to help in this process. He is crate trained but not comfortable to stay in for long periods of time, but is perfectly fine loose in the house alone and does well. Ares is barrier reactive so anyone walking by an outdoor fence or through a gate that he can see will trigger him. He will need some positive reinformcent and redirection with this behavior. He can be very shy at first, but once he warms up to you- he will be your best friend! Ares has grown up in a dog daycare and is perfectly fine in a group setting. One on one encounters will need to be taken slowly as he can get protective of his humans. He is not comfortable around cats or children and will need work in those areas to be able to settle down around them. He would do best in a house with older children. He would have to meet a kitty before living with one. He was very curious with the one he met, so that would depend on the cat. He loves to go for walks and would be the best adventure buddy! He will need continued confidence building and redirection at times with his leash manners. The perfect forever home would be a home that his new family would continue and follow through with his training needs . He deserves the best new family and his handsome face will melt your heart! He would do amazing in a home with another confident dog to show him around and make him more comfortable! He loves all of his All Paws retreat friends and family AND it would be amazing if his new family would continue to bring him. Leia
Adult • Female • Large
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Leia Fostered in: Westerville, OH Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes Good with kids: Yes Housebroken: Yes Crate trained: Yes Leash trained: Working on it! Hi, I'm Leia I am an estimated 6-8 year old large mixed breed in search of my final destination. My foster family DNA tested me and I am 50% Great Pyrenees, 20.1% Cane Corso, 19.6% American Pit Bull Terrier, and 10.3% American Bulldog. More importantly, I am 100% the best girl! My early days started with being kept crated 24/7, used for breeding and hardly cared for. Finally, my "family" abandoned me, which may have been the best gift possible. I was found as a stray and taken in as an emergency due to my condition. Between the help of many rescuers, I made my way to COPAW and have transformed into my absolute best self. From skin & bones to healthy & playful! I love sleeping on the couch, sometimes trying to scooch my way onto a lap if I'm allowed. I just learned how to play with my foster brothers and I love running in the yard with them, too. I love my food and treats! I am working on basic commands and definitely food motivated. I prefer to be fed away from other pets. After having been starved, I can get a wee bit protective of my foods. I REQUIRE... A fenced in yard or lots of walkies! If you have a flimsy fence, that might not work for me. If I see a deer or a rabbit, I want to try to get it. My foster mom had a weak spot in her fence, and I went on a bit of a walk about. Once that was fixed, I have been fine! Veterinary Care Provided All COPAW dogs are: Spayed/Neutered Microchipped Heartworm tested (1+ year) Given preventatives and initial vaccines If booster shots have not yet occurred, they may be completed for free at our Columbus, OH clinic-or at your own vet, at your expense. Adoption Info Must live in the State of Ohio No transport available-adopters must travel for the meet & greet Meet & greets are scheduled only after application approval Please come prepared to take your new best friend home if it's a match! Bring a collar, leash, harness, and crate for safe travel.
Roux B
Adult • Female • Medium
Hello. My name is Roux B. (It's pronounced like Ruby, but with a little flair)! "I am not looking for a relationship, but I am looking for a connection." Age: I am a 6-year-old girl who is adventurous and curious. My rescue calls me a pocket pittie. Personality: I am shy when I initially meet someone, but once I warm up to you, I'll be your new best friend. Skills: I know sit, stay, down and shake! I will wait for a command to eat and wait for a command to leave my crate. I am crate trained, potty trained and walk well on a leash. Other dogs: Because I am a strong-willed girl, I am very particular on who my dog friends are. I prefer to be your one and only because I want all the attention on me, I am your number one. I am currently in a home with other dogs, but it took slow introductions to get me to co-mingle with them. But as I mentioned, I want all the attention on me. Felines: I am NOT a fan of cats, they are my arch nemesis! Bleh! Stay away. Kids: I don't mind older kids, but I do get the zoomies and get clumsy while doing it. An older/considerate kid would be best. My guilty pleasure: I am a FOODIE. I suck at treat catching, but I LOVE treats. I thrive on a good cardio workout! I love to chase a red laser light at nighttime, its such a great workout for me!! Thats my secret to being lean and strong. Type of home: My perfect person is someone who is an ASSERTIVE leader and who can keep my sass at bay, because I will try to be your protector. I would be perfect for someone who is a trucker, RV adventurer, or a 1 dog only type of person. I love car rides and am ready to be your co-pilot any day. I am fit to go on any outdoor adventures, but I am also ready to just hang out and chill for movie night. I am spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested heartworm negative. My adoption fee is $250 out of state. Apply for Roux B at https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=SQYPSGVQ
Freedom
Adult • Female • Medium
??????? Freedom is a petite 3-year-old black and rust Dobergirl that came to us last July with a broken femur. Orthopedic surgeons were able to repair her leg with a plate and screws, avoiding amputation. To see her run now, you would never know she had a broken leg. She is a puppy mill momma with socialization issues, so she has been in foster care while she learned to trust humans. As with many puppy mill dogs, you have to be patient and let them move at their own pace. Progress has been slow, but she has gone from freezing every time a human wants to touch her to now coming up and nudging you for a pet. Once she feels comfortable with you, she will curl up beside you and cuddle. She has good house manners and is too short to counter surf, but she will steal a piece of paper or nab the water bowl towel once in a while. She loves toys that squeak or crinkle, though at some point they will meet their demise and be left to die in a pile on the floor. Leash walking was a completely different challenge. After nine patient months post-recovery of letting her drag a leash around, then getting her to walk with the leash connected to a human - if only for a few steps - she has finally joined the daily dog walks with her foster siblings. Now she wonders why she stood in the yard barking while the other dogs enjoyed sniffing out the critters that had been in their field. Even her walking style has improved so rather than running to the end of her leash, turning in circles, then sitting and refusing to stand up again, it is a more enjoyable activity. Freedom still has some challenges ahead, but they were dependent on getting her to walk on leash. The solution to relocating her where she needs to be when she refuses to budge, has been to carry her. Fortunately, she is petite, but it's not a good long-term solution, as not everyone can lug around 50+ pounds. Activities such as going out the front door, where cars aren't far enough away, getting in the car for a ride or going down a flight of stairs are on her foster's list of things to be accomplished. She has gained a lot of confidence from her dog siblings, so she will do best in a home with a confident dog rather than as an only dog. Men are still not her favorite humans, and though she is doing better with her foster Dad, she will be more comfortable in a home where a female is the primary care giver. If yours is a home with children and lots of people coming and going, in a busy neighborhood, or you like to put your dog in a lot of social situations, she is NOT a good dog for you. She is very sweet, with a lot of sass and personality, but it has taken a lot of time, love and patience to get her where she is today. She just needs a home where she can continue to thrive. Please note, we are accepting applications in most of Ohio, southeastern Michigan, southeastern Indiana and western Pennsylvania. Interested in Freedom?
